The second generation of Chouinard’s Yosemite hammer, with three easy-to-spot changes from the 1966 original.
Identifying Marks
- Red manufacturer’s stamp (the 1966 version used silver ink)
- More flared handle end
- Phillips screw near the end of the handle, holding the leash (the 1966 version used a flat-head screw)
About the Model
The 1968 version keeps the overall design of the first Yosemite hammers but reshapes the handle end, which gives a more secure grip on the swing. It also replaced the 1966’s flat-head screw at the end of the handle, which holds the leash, with a Phillips screw. The Phillips screw carried on through 1971.
